27 Sep Lower Brewers Lock to Kingston

Power cut out on the boat in the night so we had to run the motors in the morning, because there was no power to hook up to on the upper part of the lock where we were moored.
Another beautiful misty morning, and cold

Used the amenities ashore that are available at every lock.
We needed to stay moored until 10 am because there was a cruise boat coming through and they had priority.
We discovered that there was an apple orchard with a store attached so some of us headed down there to check out what they had.

We bought a few things, Chatted to a couple who had come to collect some Macoun apples that they had ordered. They gave us one each to try.
The others took the boat through the lock after the cruise boat had gone through

We were soon underway, sunny but cold and windy,

Passed by farmland again, cows and haystacks.

Jim’s turn to be skipper today, so Helen sat up front with him for a while

Passed the penitentiary

Passed through narrow channels

Wide flooded marshland lakes with a narrow channel in the middle

Came across a maintenance boat

Lots of birdlife along the way, more swans, gulls, loons

Arrived at Kingston Mills late morning. We had to wait at the locks until the cruise boat had passed through the last lock as there were 4 locks to pass through.

Interesting passing through the locks. Took about 45 minutes to get through all the locks. Lots of spectators here.
The road bridge went over the first lock so we had to stay well back in the lock to make sure that we fitted under the bridge

Rail line passed over one section and three trains went overhead whilst we were going through the locks. One of them an extra long freight train
Passed through rocky countryside

and more pretty coloured trees

We were soon approaching Kingston as was evident by the high rise and development showing up.

Motored on to Kingston early afternoon, heading for the marina. Our first destination - the pump out point.

After that we motored around to the mooring spot that we had been designated.

After mooring we hooked up the power  and filled up with water

After a late lunch of bread and soup Lynne, Miki and I headed off to the shops. Bought what we needed except the fruit and veg as the plan was to buy that at the markets the next day. We ducked across the road to the LCBO to top up on wine and beer, we were going to catch a cab back to the boat, because there was a lot to carry but we decided to push the shopping trolley to the boat.

There was a sign at a parking lot saying ‘event parking’ so we asked the guys monitoring the parking lot what the event was and they told us that it was an ice hockey match between the Kingston Fontenacs and the Ottowa 67s, so we decided to go along and watch that evening.

We had seats in the second row back where it became quite scary at times as the players would crash into the side walls in front of us sometimes. It seemed to be quite a rough game

They had cheer leaders come out at times

The players were certainly well padded, especially the goalie

A centre console above the rink showed different visuals and at times encouraged the audience to shout. A bit of fun and a bit of an education. We bought burgers and hot dogs there for dinner. At the end of each quarter 2 machines would come out and sweep the ice.

The game finished suddenly just at the start of the 4th quarter. We didn’t quite understand why and how it ended but it seems that the Ottowa team won.
Our journey today from Lower Brewers to Kingston
