We stopped off at Barrier Lake on the way
Heading along the highway to our next destination we were treated with a black bear sighting. He was oblivious to us, happily filling his belly ready for his winter hibernation
Our next stop was at Highwood Meadows where we went for the walk along the boardwalk trail.
Where we saw a small larch tree losing its soft leaves
Roger had planned a longer walk across the other side of the road but it was closed due to bear activity, so we went a little way along the walk in the valley
This is where we saw some sink holes the result of water melting the permafrost
At this point it had started to rain, so there was another change of plan..,
We headed over Highwood Pass
And decided to go and eat our picnic lunch at the Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre where there is a special viewing room available for relaxing and spotting wildlife, which we were lucky to do as someone spotted a grizzly bear in the distance
A tiny spot in the distance but we were able to pick it up in the binoculars and I cheekily took a photo of a photo someone had captured on their camera with a telephoto lens
We spent quite a while at the centre looking at the displays
When we left the centre the rain had stopped so we were able to get out and about again.
Heading for the Kananaskis Lakes, where there is a small hydro plant
We checked out both upper and lower lakes but walked a little bit around the Upper Lake
Where we came across a quad cycle on the track. We weren’t sure if he was meant to be there or not as he also had a rifle with him
We walked as far as this seat at a viewpoint where we could see the waterfall the other side
On our way to Kananaskis village Roger stopped for us to get a photo of the wild sheep
we went for a walk around on the rim trail at Kananaskis Village with views down into the valley and onto the golf course
We ended a great day out with dinner at the golf course
With magnificent views out to the mountains
