8 Oct Toronto

We decided to spend the day in Toronto today.
A great plan. A fulfilling day.
Miki headed off early to spend the day with her relatives
Andy drove the rest of us to the station to catch the Go train into Toronto

Toronto station is massive, took us a while to find out where the toilets were

Couldn’t resist taking a photo of this wash basin in the toilets there. Looked like an airoplane. The wings are actually hand dyers!!!

and which was the best way to get out and where the hop on hop off bus stop was

as we had decided to buy tickets to go on the hop on hop off bus. Turned out to be an excellent tour, driving all round the city with commentary through headphones.

This is a bike station at the railway station

Bill at the station

Whilst waiting for the hop on hop off bus I noticed the city bikes opposite, similar to our scheme. Apparently they are also getting the lime scooters but with similar controversy.
Finally the bus came and we hopped on top. The tour took quite some time and was slow in parts due to there being a lot of traffic so by the time we got close to where we started we needed toilets and food

Nevertheless it was an interesting tour, going through the streets of the city with many features, highlights and important facts pointed out to us along the way

A lot of construction taking place with modern buildings going up

Such a beautifully clear day to be doing the tour too

Many historic buildings

Passed the dog fountain. Unfortunately didn’t get the opportunity to get up close to see all the little dog sculptures

Interesting 3D artwork on the side of this building

Passed the distillery district

Bill at the front of the bus

Scene down one of the streets the trolley bus goes down

Apparently there is a massive shopping centre here

I have been very impressed with all the flowers around the place. This huge pot is impressive

One of the many interesting buildings we passed

This clock tower suffered fire damage but is being restored and incorporated into a new building

Museum building

These buildings are part of the University. The one at the back was designed as a peacock but is called the turkey building as it is said to look like a turkey

Impressive building in the university grounds

This is called the pencil building

This car is coming out of the news building. It’s wheels are always turning signifying that news is always happening

We hopped off the bus near to a Starbucks where we had a bite to eat before walking down to the waterfront. Passed over the Rod Robbie Bridge

This sculpture on the bridge is at the Rogers Blue Jay stadium. It represents spectators

After reaching the shores of the lake we hopped onto the boat that does a tour of the Toronto Islands

Lots of boats at the marina on the main island. Apparently this area had been flooded twice in the last couple of years due to ice melt

Relaxing cruise around the islands

The group after we finished the cruise before heading over to  the CN Tower
Had to get a photo of this sign below the CN Tower
Views across the city from the top of the CN Tower

Panoramic view of the islands that we went around in the boat

So lucky to be up here on such a clear day

Of course had to have a go at standing on the glass floor and looking straight down

and kneeling!!

Reflections on the glass floor

We stayed a top for the sunset

and had drinks

We finally left when the sun was down and the city was lit up
Walking back to the station to catch the train back to Oakville got to see the Tower all lit up

Andy picked us up from the station when we got back and we went for dinner at the Tincup sports bar
