2 Oct Merrickville

Rained most of the night
Still raining in the morning and cold. Big change from yesterday

Leisurely morning
Decided to have a cooked breakfast

What a feast - huge pancakes, eggs and bacon topped off with maple syrup

The weather fined up a little so we headed out across the road to check out the Merrickville ruins but spotted a couple carrying their canoe down the steps to the next lock level. Chatted to the lady, they had paddled the full length of the canal, and she was 77

Walked around the Merrickville Ruins

Checked out the turbine generator that provided electricity using the energy from the adjacent waterfall

Checked out the metal workshop next door

Then we went into the chandlers next

Where there was an antique section at the back

We then looked at the marina behind where there were a few sad old boats
Bill and I went for a walk alongside the locks
and through the back streets of the town

Saw some grand old houses

this big tree growing a fascinating fungi

View across the canal to the rail bridge

Passed this cute little old log cabin that looked like an original

a tree full of berries

and some huge sun flowers
Ended up back in the main street and came across a little cafe - the Bean Cafe where we went in to have lunch. Delicious Chilli soup. Used their wifi to post the blog and catch up on Facebook and email. Jim, Helen and Miki joined us in the cafe as the yellow one that they tried to get into was full. After lunch we popped into the local food store to top up on some supplies.
Continued back to the boat past the shops.

and past the blockhouse

Walked down to the antique shop again for Bill to check it out. Was amused by this

Chilled on the boat for the afternoon, literally chilled as it began to get quite cold
Bill was the chef for the evening as he was cooking a curry

Watched the setting sun change the colours in the sky
